With its cast of shady arms dealers and child soldiers, animated television series Jormungand is a far cry from the fantastic flights of imagination in much of the anime world. That’s not to say that its stylized spycraft is completely divorced from the anime mainstream, however.
“It’s about a child assassin trained by a super-assassin; there are a lot of mother issues and lots of guns,” says Alamo’s Keith Garcia. “What I’ve seen of it reminds me a bit of Golgo 13 — it has that sort of style, those hard lines. Even though this seems a little less James Bond-y, it definitely does have a whole sort of spy-espionage thing happening.” The Alamo is presenting the first four episodes of the series for free, and attendees who like what they see will get a voucher for a discount on purchasing the first season if they get hooked by its globe-trotting gun dealers and vengeance-seeking killers.
See it at 7 p.m. tonight only at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, 7301 South Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. Admission is free, but a $5 voucher (redeemable for food or drink) is required to reserve a seat. For details, visit drafthouse.com/denver/littleton.
