Super Soiree

What do Justin Beard, Kymberly Robertson, Tricia Hoke, Lillia Miller, Matt Gillespie and Everett Mansfield have in common? They'll all show off their handcrafted masks as part of the Masquerade Ball tonight at the Oriental Theater. Also on the lineup are the Roman Numerals and Munly & the Lee Lewis Harlots, titillating stage shows by Burlesque As It Was, visuals by dBom, and a Polarity Twins fashion show.

"There's a really wide variety of [mask] materials, which is why it's going to be an interesting show," says Polarity Twins co-founder Colby Bemis. "People have worked with everything: metal, denim, wax, tree branches, feathers. I even have a girl who made hers out of little Formica sheets.

"A couple of the designers are modeling their masks themselves," she adds. "Marika Evanger designed a huge, awesome peacock mask and will be wearing it in the show." The other mask-makers include artists who specialize in hair, graphic design, music, silk-screens and fabric — basically, just about every medium known to man.

And since costumes or formal attire are requested, you'll have a chance to indulge in everyone's favorite part of the horrifying holiday: dressing up.

The Oriental is at 4335 West 44th Avenue, and the show starts at 9 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door; for details, call 303-455-2124 or visit
Sat., Oct. 28, 8 p.m.
