Before Christopher Guest rocked the mockumentary world with Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show and A Mighty Wind, he played lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel in the cult classic This Is Spinal Tap. The plot: Fan/filmmaker Marti DiBergi (Rob Reiner) follows his favorite band through what will prove to be a fateful tour, documenting such enduring Tufnel lines as "You can't really dust for vomit" and "These go to eleven."
Tonight at dusk at Fillmore Plaza, East Second Avenue and Fillmore Street, the free Films on Fillmore series presents This Is Spinal Tap as its last movie of the summer. "I think when you look at the other film series around the area, people are showing movies that are fairly recent," notes marketing director Christina Brickley. "And our approach this summer was kind of to do the best of everything, and as a staff, we thought that This Is Spinal Tap was the best quirky flick." Brilliant! Bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnics and if you forget anything, beer and wine will be available for sale, and chairs can be rented for $2. Show up early; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit www.cherrycreeknorth.com for details.
