The Art of the Tease

In case you hadn’t noticed — and with all those pasties and panties flying everywhere, how could you not? — burlesque is a big deal in this city. Anabella La Fontaine (aka Joey Smith) is one of the premier performers in the area; you might have seen her on the Burlycute stage or elsewhere around town. And tonight you can see her — all of her — at Immundo Burlesque, a show taking place the first Sunday of every month at the Rackhouse Pub, 208 South Kalamath Street.

“Our inspiration was getting the best of the best around Denver,” La Fontaine explains. “Different venues all have different regular performers, so we tried to pull them from all different locations. It’s kind of an artist-driven collective.

“We have not only burlesque, but also musicians, jugglers, singers, drag performers and local artists,” she continues. “Miss Kitty Mae’s Over the Top Millinery and Accessories sells hats, and we have local jewelry. We just try to keep it upbeat and do what the art-ists feel like doing.”

La Fontaine will take the stage tonight with Orchid Mei, Adam Goldstein, Phelyx the Mentalist and more starting at 7 p.m.; tickets are $10 pre-sale and $15 at the door. Find out more at
