Last year's Cat Care Society fundraiser, Tails of the Painted Cats, was so popular, says society director Suellen Scott, that they're bringing it back. After all, it's hard to hate the cheerful fiberglass felines that are the focal point, especially after they've been decorated by an imaginative circle of cat-loving artists. Some of those artists are new, and others participated last year, too, but all sixteen of them can be proud of their finished works, which are now available for online bidding at the Cat Care Society website.
Each cat is a work of art, but if you're scratching your head, wondering what you'd do with a whimsical fiberglass cat by the name of Casino Cat, Sushi Chef or Meowscarade, Scott says they're lovely home decorations and, with a Clearcoat treatment, ideal for installing in the garden. But, she adds, "We were joking in the office that after you've acquired more than one, you'll have to start the attic rotation." All of the kitties but one will be auctioned off at a Painted Cats gala on July 28. (The last one, "Claudia Monette," by Jane McFadden Dorsey, will be the prize in a drawing; entry tickets are $10 each.)
