The Gras Is Always Greener
Obviously, the best place to spend Mardi Gras is in the Big Easy (yes, even post-Katrina), but maybe you don't want to travel, or perhaps you have to head to work on Ash Wednesday. Why not stay in Denver and get the full experience right here? You can, during the sixth annual Krewe of Baloo Mardi Gras Charity Ball & Parade, tonight at the Gothic Theatre.
The blues-zydeco band Blue Krewe will provide tunes, while local burlesque-and-vaudeville production company Immundo provides the eye candy. There will be old favorites ("Pink Elephants on Parade," "The Voodoo Queen"), plus new floats, beads and a costume contest to keep things fresh. Proceeds will be split between Radio 1190 and the New Orleans charity Roots of Music; tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The show starts at 8 p.m. at the Gothic, 3263 South Broadway in Englewood; visit www.gothictheatre.com for more information.
