The Old and the New

Tonight’s Silver Screen Ball at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art will give revelers a chance to experience the swanky, smoky bygone days of Hollywood cinema with video presentations projected on the walls of the museum’s new multimedia room.

The video installations, which remix old movie footage, were created by Boulder artist Tres Altman along with Alan O'Hashi of Boulder Community Media especially for the party. “So it's going to be really atmospheric and fit into the feel of the night,” says event coordinator Lindsey Cash. The festivities at New York’s Times Square will also be streamed in. There will also be a Red Room decorated with paper lanterns (à la Polanski's Chinatown) to represent the neo-noir films area. Guests should dress in black and silver cocktail attire.

The ball starts at 9 p.m. at the museum, 1750 13th Street, and includes live music by the Fellow Citizens, DJ Josh Haimes remixing old jazz, and DJCJ spinning dance music. "It's the perfect opportunity to have a fun, inexpensive night supporting the arts," says Cash. Free desserts and a champagne toast are included. Tickets are $20 pre-party or $25 at the door.
