The People’s Party
A decades-old tradition, the CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair at Civic Center Park is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the country. But the community gathering, which opens today, is far from old-school: This year the fair will offer its first-ever health and wellness area, devoted to screenings, nutrition guidance and an array of live yoga and Pilates demonstrations.
Combining with Green Spaces’ now-defunct Green Route festival, the People’s Fair is also working toward a more sustainable gathering. “We merged with them to offer a platform to the community for all of these green vendors,” says Andrea Furness, the assistant director of Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods. Compost and recycling bins will be on site as well, helping the organization reach its goal of reducing waste.
As always, dozens of bands will play multiple stages, local restaurants will serve up hundreds of meals, and local and national artisans and merchants will get a chance to hawk their wares to 250,000 visitors. A kids-and-family area will feature free and low-cost entertainment, craft projects, rides and more.
The 42nd Annual CHUN Capitol Hill People’s Fair is free and runs today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Civic Center Park. For more information, visit chundenver.org.
