“We wanted to experiment with trying an event-themed cocktail party,” says Denver Botanic Gardens spokeswoman Erin Bird, explaining the origins of Unwind. “This is the first time we’ve done something like this; we’ve done a few one-off things in the past, but we wanted to brand Unwind as an ongoing series and gauge its success.”
To prove the concept isn’t all wet, at tonight’s Unwind: H2O there will be food stations around the Gardens (with paella for the main course), live music, an ice sculpture, specialty cocktails and both a water bar and a sorbet bar — as well as a chance to catch the summer’s big show without a crowd. “We’ve been seeing 5,000 people a day at the Gardens because the Chihuly exhibit is so crazy-popular,” notes Bird. “So this is an opportunity for you to be here with a few hundred of your closest friends instead of thousands and thousands. It has a more intimate feel to it — and it’s outside, and you can walk around the garden. Plus, the ticket does include three drinks.”
Those tickets are $50 ($45 for museum members); Unwind runs from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Denver Botanic Gardens, 1007 York Street. For more information, call 720-865-3500 or visit botanicgardens.org.
