We Will Rock You

Two years ago, the Colorado Rockies came close to taking home Major League Baseball’s biggest prize, but they lost the World Series to the Boston Red Sox. Bad luck, guys. Last year the Rockies didn’t come nearly as close to eternal glory; instead, the Philadelphia Phillies won the Series for the first time since 1980.

Nobody knows what the upcoming season holds for our boys in purple, since the lineup is missing power hitter Matt Holliday and there are plenty of new names for fans to learn. But one thing is certain: It’s time to don those striped jerseys, call in sick to work and pocket some money for beer, peanuts and hot dogs, because the first official home game of the season starts today at 2:10 p.m. And the Rockies are facing off against none other than the current champions from Philadelphia, which should give us a good idea as to what our team will be capable of this season.

The opening game is sold out, but loitering outside the gates almost always guarantees you’ll find a seat (albeit at an inflated price). Still, schedule magnets will be handed out to all ticket-holders, so you’ll have a souvenir to show for your troubles, at least. The Rockies play at Coors Field, 2001 Blake Street. Visit for information.
Fri., April 10, 2:10 p.m., 2009
