Wearing Goodwill On Your Sleeve
Goodwill will ride high on the recycling trend with tonights Good Exchange Fashion Show and Clothing Swap. And the organization has one of Denvers biggest fashion celebrities, local Project Runway star Mondo Guerra, as the feather in its cap.
Were trying to get the word out about the whole lifestyle of swapping clothes, says Goodwill spokeswoman Vanessa Clark. And we were lucky enough to be able to lure Mondo into sharing his name with the event. Hes such a great ambassador and so enthusiastic about the Goodwill, since he started out when he was very young repurposing stuff he got from the Goodwill store.
Mondos humanitarian persona also suits the events goal of showcasing an aspect of the Goodwill that not everyone knows about: its student programs in local schools. To that end, Clark notes, the fashion-show portion of the evening will feature repurposed designs using Goodwill clothing created by fifteen or more students from Denver School of the Arts and other design-oriented programs in the public-school system. A repurposed item by Mondo will also be auctioned off.
And then theres the swap part: Attendees are requested to bring ten or more used clothing items to swap; while student designs grace the runway, volunteers will be hard at work hanging the clothes on racks to share. The swap will also include fashion and beauty vendors, door prizes, cocktails and hors doeuvre.
It all goes down from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Infinity Park Event Center, 4400 East Kentucky Avenue in Glendale; tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. Visit www.goodwilldenver.org/exchange for details.
