Writer and storyteller Charly "The City Mouse" Fasano is no stranger to mingling with musicians. The spoken-word artist has shared the stage with the likes of Lucero and Drag the River, has released collaborative work with bands through his own label, Fast Geek Press, and regularly performs live with instrumental accompaniment.
Tonight at the Skylark Lounge, Fasano will host Bands & Writers, a full evening smash-up of music and words. Local music-scene alumni make up participating bands such as Land Lines and Sweet Tooth Meat Tooth, and Denver poet Kenneth Arkind will join Fasano in opening the collective effort.
Fasano says he hopes to make this merging of art forms a regular event in the future, combining his longstanding relationship with the music community with the world of spoken word.
The Skylark is located at 140 South Broadway; admission to Bands & Writers is $5, and the performances start shortly after 9 p.m. For more information and a full list of acts, visit www.cmousefasano.com.
