That's why Dayna Himot is producing the Daily C.R.A.B., short for Constantly Risking Absurdity, Baby, to make a method of the madness. Advertised as the "perfect nightcap to a fringe-filled day," the Daily C.R.A.B. is really about mapping out the next fringe-filled day. The free event with Eddy the Eskimo, played by Brooklyn-based poet and actor Ryan Eggensperger, includes previews, ads and off-the-cuff interviews in an old-fashioned talk-show format. "He's kind of this quirky, highly educated character, and at first you think maybe you're just going to be annoyed, but he's quite interesting," Himot says.
As a fringer, what you decide to see does matter, because the artists who sell the most tickets at each venue will be invited to play the Fringe Encore! on August 26. "It's a unique way to honor the artists that had the best audience response," Himot adds.
Tonight, Eddy the Eskimo kicks off the entire festival at the opening night party. Admission is $2 to $12 — determined by your roll of the dice at the door — to see the "All You Can Artist" buffet of high-speed, one-minute interviews with every artist in the fest, followed by a musical multimedia sculpture from the Serial Thrillers. The opening party starts 7 p.m. at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder.
