Leave it to laid-back Boulderites to approach Arts Awareness Month with as little hoopla as possible. Instead of a grand effort on the scale of Denver's recent Arts Week, the Boulder County Arts Alliance board decided to highlight the ordinary: "We thought, why not get people to do what they're already doing, but give it a name?" says BCAA spokeswoman Charlotte LaSasso. If it ain't broke, after all, why fix it?

Hence, Arts Awareness Day was conceived: A cultural evening drawing attention to local artists, spread out among a handful of Boulder County eateries, many of which already feature live music and art exhibits as part of their general day-to-day milieu. Make reservations for tonight's activities at any of the following and see what Boulder County has to offer: the 14th Street Bar and Grill, downtown Boulder (303-444-5854); Laudisio, 29th Street, Boulder (303-442-1300); Organic Orbit, North Boulder (303-440-8348); Ragazzi Italian Grill, Longmont (303-651-2828); the Huckleberry, Louisville (303-666-8020); the First Street Pub and Grill, Nederland (303-258-0782); Colterra, Niwot (303-652-0777); or the Gateway Cafe, Lyons (303-823-5144).
