It’s a wonderful life here in Colorado: With a vibrant urban scene and spectacular nature all around us, we’ve got the best of both worlds. This Saturday, why not indulge in the more natural wonders of our state and take in a bit of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep watching? After all, Georgetown is hosting its third annual Bighorn Sheep Festival.

Seriously, when else would you have the time and opportunity to watch Colorado’s official state animal? Thanks to the Colorado Division of Wildlife, which is sponsoring the event, festival-goers can see one of the oldest herds through spotting scopes during a viewing at the Georgetown Viewing Center (next to Georgetown Lake).

The full day of family-friendly events begin at 10 a.m. with plenty of programs and activities in various downtown venues, including performances from the bluegrass band Grass It Up, climbing walls, wagon rides, storytelling by the campfire…and did we mention bighorn sheep?

The festival is free; Georgetown is just an hour west of Denver on I-70. For more information, call 303-291-7386 or visit http://wildlife.state.co.us/Viewing.
Sat., Nov. 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., 2008
