Every year, in addition to kids activities and crafts, the free festival features a lineup of local musicians. This year it includes the Martin Gilmore Duo, the Uptown Relics, Finders and Youngberg, and Book Em Danno, Colorados foremost Hawaiian swing band. Some of this music has its roots within Buffalo Bills time, Friesen explains, then admits, With Hawaiian swing, were going to the edge. The Pacific Rim, actually. But thats because they want people to think about Buffalo Bill, and this Denver-owned museum, in new ways. Were trying to really look at roots music with this festival, concludes Friesen. Ive found ways to relate Buffalo Bill to rock and roll, but thats another conversation.
The museum is located on Lookout Mountain Road in Golden; for more information, go to www.buffalobill.org or call 303-526-0744.
