Denver’s top chefs are playing with fire tonight at Elway’s Cherry Creek, the stamping ground for the second annual Hot Rocks Griller Challenge, a blowout bash and heated chef competition that benefits men’s programs through the Denver Health Foundation.

“We created this event to raise awareness of men’s health issues, knowing that a lot of men should be going to the doctor far more often and getting checkups,” says June Nery, spokeswoman for Denver Health. Twelve of Denver’s star chefs — Robert Bogart (Elway’s Downtown); Michael Bortz (City Bakery); Jamey Fader (Lola and Big Red F Restaurant Group); Troy Guard (TAG); Jennifer Jasinski (Rioja and Euclid Hall); Brian Laird (Barolo Grill); Matt Selby and Brandon Biederman (Vesta Dipping Grill and Steuben’s); Goose Sorensen (Solera); Tyler Wiard (Elway’s); Elise Wiggins (Panzano); and Sean Yontz (Tambien and Sketch) — are participating in the challenge, which is all about sliders and side dishes. Guests will vote on their favorite sliders.

Tonight also kicks off the Elway’s summer concert series with Chris Daniels and the Kings. The event catches fire at 6 p.m. at 2500 East First Avenue; general-admission tickets are $75 per person, and VIP tickets go for $100 each. To purchase your hot seat, go to www.denverhealthfoundation.org or call 303-602-2978.
