Styles Davis (aka Noah Parman) has been an integral part of the musical and cultural landscapes of this city for several years, so it's no wonder that his DJ sets get so many asses shaking on the dance floor. Davis began his career behind the decks in the late '90s, influenced (as so many were) by the downtempo/trip-hop sounds purveyed by such labels as Ninja Tune, Mo' Wax and Pork; specifically, he found inspiration in heavyweights such as Coldcut, DJ Shadow, Aphex Twin, Mark Farina and others. With a background like that, it's not surprising that Davis plays with genre, moving from trip-hop to hip-hop to funky house to broken beats, combining old-school classics with brand-new gems while using both hip-hop and dance techniques to create his mix. Catch him on Saturday, April 16, when he heads up the Meadowlark's Blend residency alongside Brick Lee, Sami T and Hoang Luu.
