Abel Quintero is one of the many dog breeders trying to change that. He and Steve Martinez are hosting the Bully Beatdown, a dog and car show promoting the American Bully, a mix between a Staffordshire Terrier and an American Pit Bull Terriers.
The Bully Beatdown will be the first car show of its kind in Colorado, where we bring dogs, cars and live music together for one big event, says Quintero. Im trying to help change the image of pit bulls as an aggressive breed, and the American Bully is calmer and bred by legitimate breeders instead of in someones back yard.
Attendees can enter their lowrider, Impala, truck or motorcycle in the competition. For those with American Bullies, there will also be a contest based on the age of the dog. You can even meet the [American Bully] breeders themselves if you would like to buy a dog, so you know where the animal is coming from, says Quintero.
The Bully Beatdown will be held at the Adams County Regional Park and Fairgrounds, 9755 Henderson Road in Brighton, today at 9 a.m. There will be live performances by the Fresh Breath Committee, Spoke In Wordz, Hard 2 Kill Entertainment and more. General admission is $25 (children ages 12 and under admitted free). The car show is $10 to enter; the dog show is $10 to $20, depending on the dog.
