There may not be a sea in Denver — much less seven of them — but Colorado pirates need not worry. BrethrenCon II has all yer bases covered, and then some. Arrrrrrrgh!

BrethrenCon II has everything that pirates, or non-pirates, could want for a weekend of land-based fun: pirate panels, a talk-like-a-pirate contest, a treasure hunt, a pirates’ plunder, a voodoo workshop and a kilt-blowing contest, “where guys can be hunks without showing their junk,” says convention spokeswoman Linda Hougham, whose pirate name is Copper Penny. “It’s like ComicCon, only for pirates,” she adds. “We highly encourage dressing like a pirate.”

Lady pirates will be able to purchase seventeenth-century clothing, too — just in case they’ve lost some of their garments on the high seas. Needless to say, there will be treasure for all kinds of pirates — and even something for non-pirates.

BrethrenCon II begins at 10 a.m. today at the Denver Airport Marriott at Gateway Park, 16455 East 40th Circle in Aurora. Tomorrow’s lineup begins at 10 a.m. with a captain’s breakfast, then continues with a poetry reading by Blackbeard at 2 p.m. Any booty collected from ticket sales and a silent auction, which begins today at 11 a.m., will benefit the Gabriel Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting parrot welfare.
