If you ever tried (and probably failed) at model painting as a kid, then you might take solace in WingNutCon II, a setting for model builders and artists to show off their work. The contest spotlights some of Colorado’s best model builders and their creations in over forty different categories.

“We’ve got some really good model builders here,” says contest chair Jennifer Jordan. “It’s generally plastic models, but it’s open to all types.”

The bulk of the work on display will be meticulously painted kits, but Jordan notes that a few scratch-built models are likely to end up in the contest as well. If you want to participate in the contest, you can register ahead of time or simply show up with your models. And while the contest will be the main attraction, there will be plenty of other activities throughout the day, including make-and-take models for kids.

WingNutCon runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Wings Over the Rockies Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard. Entrance is included with museum admission of $11, as are up to two contest entries. For more information, call 303-564-7430 or visit www.ipmsdenverrobwolf.org.
