While the debate still rages over whether applesauce or sour cream is the ultimate latke topping, the real question is, where can one get good sufganiyot? The fresh baked Israeli-style jelly doughnuts (and latkes with toppings, too) will be in abundance tonight at Festival of Lights, the second annual collaborative celebration of the first night of Hanukkah with the Colorado Hebrew Chorale and Four Mile Historic park.

Beyond the spread of "miracle of the oil" celebration foods, there will be a Hanukkah candle-lighting, an instructional Israeli folk-dance session and a variety of songs sung in English, Yiddish, Hebrew and Ladino, or Judeo-Spanish.

"If you're looking for Fiddler on the Roof or 'Hava Nagila,' that's not us," says Hebrew Chorale founder and music director Carol Kozak Ward. Rather, the night is about engaging an interfaith community and bringing people together to celebrate the traditions of Hanukkah, she says.

This all-ages, multi-generational night is open to people of all faiths and begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Four Mile House education center, 715 Forest Street. For more information on the BYO-menorah party, visit www.fourmilepark.org or call 720-865-0800. Tickets are $5 to $10 and include food and festivities.
Tue., Dec. 20, 5:30-8:30 p.m., 2011
