Now that the Olympics are over, we can get back to playing games designed for the unprofessional, uncoordinated athlete in all of us — like kickball, for instance. And this afternoon, you can show off your ball-booting skills (or lack thereof) while raising money for charity at Howard Dental Center’s fourth annual Kickin’ for a Cause. “A lot of people like to call it ‘slosh ball’ because there’s beer involved,” says event organizer Mary Salsich, referring to the free brew donated by the Wynkoop Brewing Company. “You definitely don’t have to have any experience with kickball; don’t hark back to the days in elementary school when you were terrible. This event is all about fun, friendship and fundraising.”

Since 1994, Howard Dental Center has been providing dental care to HIV/AIDS patients in the Denver area, and that’s where the money raised today will go. It costs $25 per person to participate, $325 per team (fifteen players max), and that includes free beer and lunch. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and the games go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at City Park’s softball fields; for more information, go to www.howarddental.org or call 303-863-0772.
