“It’s a night of giving and cannibalism.” That’s how Brad McHargue of Mile High Cinema, winner of the 2012 Westword Denver Web Award for best movie blog, likes to describe tonight’s Ravenous Food Drive and Raffle, which pairs a screening of the underrated cannibal flick Ravenous with a food drive for Food Bank of the Rockies. In keeping with Mile High Cinema’s goal of exposing viewers to seldom-seen horror films and more, McHargue and his blogging cohorts have teamed up with Alamo Drafthouse and Tugg to host the one-night event at the Sie FilmCenter, 2510 East Colfax Avenue, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Of the black-comedy/thriller Ravenous, which boasts a high-profile cast (Guy Pearce, Robert Carlyle and Jeffrey Jones), McHargue says, “It’s one of my favorite movies, that was in theaters for about a week before it disappeared back in 1999. It’s such a fun movie, with an amazing soundtrack and subtle themes.” And a modicum of blood and guts, of course.

Here’s the deal: Admission is $10 (tickets must be reserved in advance), and for every canned or non-perishable food item you donate, you’ll receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win Alamo film swag: Ravenous DVDs and soundtracks, pint glasses and more.
