For the past eight years, Curious Theatre has been honoring local icons who’ve been key players in shaping Denver’s cultural landscape with short plays about their lives. This year, it’s focusing on music-business luminary and AEG Live Rocky Mountains president/CEO Chuck Morris, the man responsible for bringing such national acts as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Martin, Carole King and Richard Pryor to the once-ignored Colorado capital. “We had all heard of Chuck, and knew about all of his accomplishments and his contributions to the music scene,” says Curious artistic director Chip Walton. “Though I don’t think we had any idea about the crazy, wonderful, hilarious stories that we’ve come to learn and love about Chuck’s life and work. He has played such a crucial role in supporting and promoting local musicians and bands that it’s hard to even imagine what the Denver music scene would look like without Chuck as a driving force over the past forty years. Chuck’s life in rock and roll is full of such great stories, history and friendships that it is tailor-made for writing a great and memorable play.”

Denver Stories Honoring Chuck Morris begins with cocktails and live music tonight at 6 p.m.; the play based on his story follows at 7:30 p.m. at Curious Theatre, 1080 Acoma Street. This is a major fundraiser for the theater, and tickets are $1,000; for more information, visit curioustheatre.org.
