“We want to show the history and technique. The amount of work in these films is insane,” says Jared Thompson, curator of exhibitions for the museum. “It’s got mass appeal, and it’s amazing the stuff they can make.”
From that pioneering short, “Journey to the Moon,” to modern oddities like “8-bit Trip,” an homage to classic Nintendo games, the program displays the diverse work happening in LEGO cinema. There’s also a full-blown LEGO exhibit running at the museum, showing off everything from a mosaic of a classic Superman cover to a scale model of the museum itself, so stop in early if your love of LEGO goes beyond the film world.
The program starts at 7 p.m. at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road in Longmont. Admission is $5, free for museum members. For more information, visit longmontmuseum.org.
