There’s already a deafening buzz around the Denver Art Museum’s Untitled #58 — Getup: This installment of the monthly last-Friday art soiree will be like the gift wrap around the long-awaited live Soundsuit performance, a ticketed event for which dancers will don the fabulous art-to-wear artworks of Nick Cave, whose eye-candy Sojourn exhibit is currently on view at the museum. And though tickets to that event sold out in an hour, Untitled will offer alternative dalliances with wearable art and the textiles of Spun, the DAM’s venue-wide collection of summer exhibitions, as well as live streaming of the exclusive performance on the stories-high atrium wall.

Along with expert tours, a karaoke booth with dress-up duds and a chance to create a block for a giant collaborative community quilt, Untitled is also hosting Denver designer/artist Mona Lucero, who will unveil and chat about pieces she created expressly for the event, drawing inspiration from the exhibits of Spun. As a fine artist who chose design as a practical but expressive outlet, Lucero found Cave’s own artist mash-up particularly exciting.

“I’d already been familiar with his work, but it was great to see it up close,” Lucero says. “A lot of what I’ve done over the years came from similar ideas. He brings together all kinds of different elements: fashion, costumes, performance, installation — all these things in sculpture — and I think I’ve also been exploring those sides, too. It inspired me to feel that I can push ahead into whatever it is I’ve been thinking about all along.”

Lucero doesn’t want to give away too much, but she thinks her contribution will end up as an installation with garments, perhaps in the Cave spirit, that also incorporates imagery from the DAM’s Spanish Colonial collection and other works she researched during a walkthrough of the museum.

Expect a big crowd and a lot of excitement; Untitled runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at the DAM, 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway, and is included in the museum admission of $3 to $13 (two-for-one with valid ID for students at Untitled, members free.)
