“You’ll see everything from a bright candy-apple-red convertible to a rose-pink sedan,” says Keim. “Everybody was really fascinated with the United States sending somebody to the moon, so everything has that sort of space-age look. You’ll see a lot of influences of rocket design incorporated into the design of the cars, which is, of course, something you don’t see today.”
The exhibit is open daily during regular admission hours, but today you can see it as part of the museum’s first annual Summer Rust Buster Fundraiser, a bike-athon to help support the museum and replace rare hood ornaments that were recently stolen. A $25 registration fee includes a T-shirt and admission. Arrive at Globeville Landing Park, down the street from the Forney at 4303 Brighton Boulevard, at 10 a.m. for a 10:30 ride to Confluence Park, where an extra $10 will get you a boxed lunch.
