A raft of satellite art shows will accompany this week’s 2013 Biennial of the Americas and its major Draft Urbanism exhibitions; to meet the challenge of addressing Biennial topics, RedLine Gallery teamed up with Mile High Connects and curator Cortney Lane Stell (who also curated First Draft, the 2013 BotA’s nod to the local art community, on view at the McNichols Building) for Imagined Realities, a site-specific outdoor installation of works exploring issues of energy and sustainability that opens today at Sustainability Park, a kind of urban testing ground for new sustainable technologies and practices. “This exhibition is not about answers,” says Stell. “It’s more about a pluralistic dialogue.”

To that end, eight artists and an arts collective contributed seven sculptural works in the park; they’ll all be unveiled at tonight’s reception, which doubles as a sanctioned BotA community party. In addition to the exhibit, tonight’s festivities include speakers — Mayor Michael Hancock, Chamber of Commerce head Bill Vidal, Scott Sampson of the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, and Chris Parr of the Denver Housing Authority — as well as live music, dance and performance poetry under the stars.

Join the fun from 7 to 11 p.m. at SPark, 2500 Arapahoe Street; Imagined Realities remains on view through September 6. For more information about tonight’s party, visit biennialoftheamericas.org, or go to redlineart.org for more on the exhibit.
Wed., July 17, 7-10 p.m.; July 17-Sept. 6, 2013
