Just because flash fiction is short doesn’t mean that it's simple. “Some people think that because it's small, it must be easier,” says Nancy Stohlman, who founded the monthly F-Bomb reading series, which specializes in fiction that falls under the four-minute mark. “Actually, it's the opposite; it's like painting the Mona Lisa on a grain of rice.” The series has a different host each time, along with featured readers and an open-mic portion. Tonight’s F-Bomb Holiday Flash Fiction Reading and Book Swap, hosted by Stohlman, includes a reading from Froggy Style: A F***ed-Up Fairy Tale author J. A. Kazimer; songs by Stohlman; and open-mic participants whose names will be drawn from a stocking instead of a traditional sign-up list. A holiday book swap is also on the agenda, so folks can bring old paperbacks and trade them in for some new winter reading.

F-Bomb begins with the book swap at 6 p.m. at the Mercury Cafe, 2199 California Street, and is free and open to the public; the reading gets under way at 6:45. For more information, visit flashbombdenver.wordpress.com.
