"We are over the moon about this location. It is nearby Wash Park, Platte Park, Old South Pearl St., and also our home neighborhood of Baker," said Former Future owners James and Sarah Howat in an email today. The building, at 1290 South Broadway, is in a former medical marijuana dispensary next to Adelita's Cocina Y Cantina.

The brewery already has most of its equipment, which it will move into the new space this week. The Howats had been storing some of it at Our Mutual Friend Malt & Brew.
Former Future will use a 3.5-barrel system that it bought from Bennett Forgeworks in the town of Ridgway. It recently purchased some fermentation tanks from TRVE Brewing, which is located about a mile north of Former Future, at 227 Broadway.
So far, there aren't many Denver breweries located south of 1st Avenue, but Former Future will be joined down there by Declaration Brewing, which plans to open this fall at 2030 South Cherokee Street, about a mile southwest.
The Howats are excited about the building's interior, which includes high ceilings with exposed beams, brick walls, and lots of space for brewing. It will be able to accommodate nearly 100 people, with twenty at the bar.
"The design will highlight the process from grain to glass, exposing every step," they said. The details of the decor are being kept a secret, but the brewery's theme and logo suggest a modern or futuristic spin on history, similar to the Steampunk vibe.
Former Future hopes to open in October.
