Developer Mickey Zeppelin bought the old Victorian building at 1434 Blake Street back in the early '80s, moving his office upstairs, putting an architectural bookstore in the basement, and then opening the iconic City Spirit Cafe with his wife, artist Susan Wick, on the first floor.

After the closed City Spirit in 1997, Zeppelin sold the building, and it went through many incarnations over the next fifteen years before it finally opened in September as the Full Steam Tavern. But Full Steam has already closed.

That means that this space has swallowed up at least eight concepts. Going back from Full Steam, it was Kraine Station, the Blake, PreGame Sports Bar & Grill (the upstairs space that was supposed to become Boudoir 1434 never opened), SportsBook, The Lure, Bender's Sausage Haus and the original home of Andrew's Pub.

In some ways, the Sausage Haus might have been the best fit; Zeppelin says that at one point the building had been a smokehouse, with a giant smoker in the basement that made the books sometimes smell like hickory smoke.

On Friday night, Zeppelin and Wick will host a City Spirit Reunion at Taxi, the development they now have in RiNo. You can share memories of City Spirit at the end of this City Spirit post -- and if you can remember other occupants of 1434 Blake Street, include them in the comments section below.
