Firehouse Subs, a national chain based in Jacksonville, Florida, has opened its first Colorado location at 10060 Grant Street, in Thornton. It features steamed subs with names like the Hook and Ladder, the Engineer and the Engine Company. Ordering one "fully involved" means your sandwich comes complete with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion and a pickle on the side.

Firehouse Subs was founded by Robin and Chris Sorensen, two firefighting brothers from Jacksonville. It now operates 341 stores, most of them franchised, in more than fifteen states, primarily in the southeast and Midwest. The company plans to open 52 stores in the western market over the next seven years under the leadership of local franchise owners, Gary Gonzalez and Bruce Gerstein.
