New Belgium Brewing, Colorado's largest craft-beer makers and the third largest in the country, revealed in May that it was searching for an East Coast location for a second facility. The company said it would make a decision by the end of 2011. Well, we're getting close, and New Belgium has narrowed the choices down to Philadelphia and Asheville, North Carolina, while expanding its media profile with articles like this interesting one from Bloomberg Businessweek. Get jolly at Upslope Brewing in Boulder today when the taphouse breaks into its new Christmas Ale, weighing in at 7.4 percent ABV. "This seasonal elixir pours ruby red and offers a complex aroma of holiday spices and Belgian yeast character," according to the brewery. The RollinGreens food truck will also be in the house.

Thursday, December 8

Avery Brewing hails the King today, bringing its Maharaja imperial IPA out of the castle early this season. Normally released in March, the Boulder brewery has decided to take advantage of the holidays this year. The tapping runs from 5 to 11 p.m.

Lone Tree Brewing, 8222 Park Meadows Drive ( across from Furniture Row), opens its doors today at 4 p.m., becoming the seventh new brewery to open this year in the metro area. Lone Tree will have at least five beers on tap -- a stout, an IPA, a pilsner, a pale ale and a blonde -- and plans to tap two others in the next week or two. Founded by Jason Wiedmaier and John Winter, Lone Tree will have a grand opening celebration in January.

The Crafty Ladies beer club will celebrate and tap Chai Stout tonight from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Highland Tap & Burger in Denver. The beer is one they collaborated on with Longmont's Oskar Blues and is only available at the restaurant.

Friday, December 9

It's Dry Dock pint night at the Rackhouse Pub when Dry Dock brewer and cask master Walt Chleva drops by from 4 to 6 p.m. to talk beer and sample brews. The first fifty people to buy a Dry Dock beer get a free Dry Dock hefe glass. The Rackhouse will have the Aurora brewery's Hefeweizen on tap, along with firkins of Barrel Aged Cask Conditioned Vanilla Bean Russian Imperial Stout, Strawberry Hefeweizen and Walt's Barleywine.

Saturday, December 10

The Bull & Bush Pub makes merry tonight at its annual Christmas Beer Tasting from 1 to 5 p.m. Last year, the Bull & Bush had 122 beers available for sampling. This year, they're working on even more, many of them rare or aged beers in very limited quantities (like a single bottle, so get there early). A $20 bill gets you twenty tickets and samples cost one to four tickets each depending on the beer. Check their Facebook page for a full list.

Monday, December 12 Lucky Pie Pizza in Louisville begins its Twelve Days of Christmas beer-a-bration today by tapping Breckenridge Christmas Ale at 7 p.m. Lucky Pie will tap twelve different beers (although the restaurant is closed tomorrow evening, December 13 for a private event). Thursday, December 15

Freshcraft will tap a keg Upslope Brewing's 3rd Anniversary Ale tonight at 7 p.m. to honor the Boulder brewery's first three years. Upslope reps will be there to talk all things Upslope. The beer, a 7.4 percent ABV Baltic porter is described as having "hints of coffee, chocolate, and subtle smokiness."

Saturday, December 17

Copper Kettle will release its Belgian Golden Strong Ale tonight at 5 p.m. The brewery has been aging the big beer for almost two months.

Rock Bottom Downtown Denver will release Hop Bomb, its double IPA, today at 6 p.m. Pints are free between 6 and 6:30.

Sunday, December 18

Littlest Big Beer Fest at Hops & Pie featuring Avery Brewing. Details TBA.
