When Tony's Market decided to open a downtown store, it added an amenity you won't find at any of the suburban Tony's outlets: a bistro where you can not only sit and enjoy a meal, but order an alcoholic beverage to take with you as you shop, since the liquor license covers the entire floor at 950 Broadway.

Since this Tony's opened fourteen months ago, the Bistro has been a surprise hit -- a real neighborhood gathering place, with Friday night happy hours even offering live music as well as bargain snacks. And now Tony's has expanded in another direction, adding breakfast.

Introduced this past weekend, the Bistro breakfast menu features several frittatas, eggs Benedict, housemade hash, creme brule French toast, a breakfast panini and a breakfast burrito smothered with Tony's excellent green chile.

All breakfast plates come with home fries -- and the promise of bottomless mimosas if you pay an extra $5.

That's a deal you might want to skip if you're eating at Tony's on a weekday, when breakfast starts at 7 a.m. But on a weekend, when breakfast begins at 7 a.m. on Saturday, 9 a.m. on Sundays, it could be just the thing to inspire you to check off your weekly shopping list early.
