The bar area fills up first on weekday afternoons, but there are usually plenty of tables open on the black-and-white tiled main floor and up on the balcony. Before long, though, the dining area will fill up. So don't wait to order, even if it's easy to get distracted by the impressive beer list (and roster of carefully crafted house-liquor drinks).
The veggie hummus pita (pictured above) is made with the Wazee's housemade hummus plus fresh spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, artichoke hearts, red onions and black olives, all nestled in a soft pita. The artichoke hearts and black olives give this version a distinctive twist on similar sandwiches found in so many eateries, an extra brininess and kick. And best of all, it's dairy- and egg-free.
The Wazee uses a Gardenburger patty for its veggie burger; it tastes like the Original, which does have some milk products in it, so vegans will want to steer clear. But cooked on the grill and served with a toasted bun and lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion, it's still better than what you'd be able to throw together at home. The fries are the biggest treat: golden-brown and perfectly spiced, crispy-on-the-outside, mealy-on-the-inside, they're worth the a la carte order (sandwiches don't come with sides at the Wazee).The Wazee Supper Club is open daily; visit www.wazeesupperclub.com.
