The Digs: Highland Square has a little something for everyone, and for those seeking a raw fish fix, look no further than Sushi Hai. This casual yet modern Japanese sushi bar is the ideal spot to hang with friends, while partaking in sake and snacks after a relaxing afternoon of boutique hopping. Sushi Hai has two bar areas, a modest, intimate sushi counter with booth seating on the main level, and a tataki bar below, but we prefer the upstairs bar for the sunlight and big windows that face Lowell Boulevard.
The Verdict: Weeks of annoyingly perfect Denver sunshine had been temporarily replaced by gray drizzle, and we figured there was no better way to spend a rainy afternoon than with a girlfriend and some hot sake.Happy hour at Sushi Hai personifies chilling out. It's an incredibly relaxing atmosphere, and the happy hour menu offers a wide variety of small bites, our favorites of which were the fish tacos and the steamed pork gyoza; the portions were big enough for two -- and if you've got stomach space to spare, you can always opt for sushi. That said, our sushi rolls on this particular outing weren't as fresh as they should have been, which is unfortunate, but our server was highly attentive and we left with satisfied bellies and a good buzz.
