So many coffee shops... so few actually doing coffee and espresso drinks right. And even fewer that are owned or operated by people who really know their beans.

Eric Yochim knows his beans.

Yochim took over Two Rivers Coffee, located in an Arvada strip mall at 7745 Wadsworth Boulevard, just over a year ago, and he's devoted his time to implementing a serious coffee program ever since. He's installed a Clover coffee machine, which allows him to drip-brew-to-order, from freshly ground beans, a single cup of coffee at a time, which not only makes for a better cup of java since it hasn't been sitting in an urn for hours, but it also lets Yochim offer several choices of beans and roasts. Most of those options come from Novo, his main roaster, but Yochim says he's also been working with a couple of local producers that specialize in single-origin coffee -- including Corvus and Huckleberry Coffee -- and that he'll continue to bring in other beans when he sees something that interests him.

The owner also takes his espresso program seriously, crafting heady lattes and cappuccinos, complete with art, which serves to prove the drink was made right. He supplements Novo's espresso roast with single-origin guest espressos that he features on a rotating basis.

Thanks to Yochim's equipment, technique and bean selection, we were thrilled with our drinks. But Yochim himself also went a long way in winning us over as he dropped knowledge on us about his industry. If you're as geeky about coffee as we are, you'll find an owner who's happy to chat about beans, his brewing method, flavor characteristics or latte art with you while he makes your drink.
