In the last week or so, I've ranted in this space not once but twice about my entire family being rejected for Barack Obama acceptance speech tickets. And given that the tickets were handed out this past weekend with much hoopla, the last thing I expected was good news in regard to this topic. But Wednesday night, we got some -- in a particularly unlikely way.
My wife, Deb, was checking her work e-mail when she spotted a note from [email protected] informing her that she had suddenly been awarded a pair of tickets for the August 28 spectacle. The letter is reproduced below.
That the note came to Deb's work e-mail is strange in and of itself. After all, she registered under that address on the website that preceded the one launched on August 6 following the Invesco Field at Mile High news conference detailed here. (She used her home e-mail for the second site.) We'd wondered if sign-ups on the first page had simply vanished into the ether: apparently not. Yet at this writing, neither of my twin daughters, who also signed up on site number one, have heard anything, pro or con -- and neither have I, despite the fact that my work address was used on both sites.
No, it doesn't make any sense. Still, we're certainly not complaining about this eleventh-hour development. (Well, my daughters are, and I understand.) My wife will be stopping by to pick up her "community credentials" this afternoon, and if something weird happens then, I'll let you know -- and that's certainly possible. After all, this process has been weird since the beginning. -- Michael Roberts
