But while the theme may be serious, the entertainment lineup is not so much.
Cazwell, who Wilson describes as a "YouTube sensation with wacky, zany antics and a little bit of sex appeal thrown in," but could also easily be described as a hot man who raps about running into Beyonce at Burger King, will perform on day two of the festival. PrideFest is scheduled for Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 at Civic Center Park.
The lineup also includes Motown diva Thelma Houston; openly gay country singer Justin Utley; music producer Lori Michaels (the maybe lover of Danielle Staub, the "prostitution whore" of The Real Housewives of New Jersey); Carmen Carrera of RuPaul's Drag Race ("She was the sexpot," Wilson says. "She likes to wear her costumes skimpy."); Cher impersonator Chad Michaels; and Michael Jackson impersonator Carlo Riley.
Saturday is PrideFest's Family Fun Day and will feature a kids parade, a petting zoo and the ever-popular PETCO Dogs in Drag Pageant. Sunday will kick off with the official PrideFest Parade, which will include a contingent of current and former LGBT military members in uniform. Sunday will continue with a full day of performances and parties.
Wilson quotes Center staffer Amy Drayer when he sums up the two days of PrideFest like this: "On Saturday, we'll have a petting zoo. Sunday is a petting zoo."
