OmMG! Looking for a side-serving of serenity with your weekend helping of stoke? Try the 1st annual Telluride Yoga Festival Winter Retreat, a chillier version of the chill summer event, featuring sessions like Annie Clark's Restorative Yoga for Skiers. If nothing else, it ought to be a nice antidote to Spring Break fever: Toxify, detoxify, repeat.
Stayin' alive! Avalanche deaths have claimed a couple of Colorado's most experienced backcountry experts amid a total of five fatalities this season and at least 32 skiers/boarders caught in slides. Since that isn't going to stop most of the rest of us from going out and getting after it anyway, check out the Backcountry Awareness Weekend at Winter Park, ground zero for some of the state's best -- and most dangerous -- backcountry terrain, including big mountain lines on Berthoud Pass, the Vasquez Cirque, Grand County and just out of bounds at the resort itself. The weekend events include gear demos (Backcountry Access is the title sponsor), snow survival and avalanche awareness classes, beacon training and winter survival essentials. Master your domain! There are also avalanche awareness and beacon training sessions this weekend at Loveland as part of Subaru's Master of the Mountain event (free with lift ticket). The event also features mini lessons for skiers and riders of all ability levels, Nordica demos, mountain tours with ski patrollers and gear giveaways including a raffle to win Nordica skis or a Burton snowboard. Subaru drivers get VIP parking treatment while spaces last. Soak it up! Sunlight Mountain never misses a chance to play up its proximity to Glenwood Springs, and Sunday's Pump Haus Park Jump Contest in the terrain park -- including a jump over an actual hot tub -- is no exception: Winners get the dubious award of qualfiying to jump over bikini models in the hot tubs at next week's Spring Thing event. Check out the Ski/Swim/Stay packages starting at $89, probably the best ski deal in the state this season, so you can get your hot springs fix while you're in town. Yard sale! Last but not least... Spring for some new Spring gear this weekend at REI's Members-Only Garage Sale, with heavy discounts on "as is" gear that other people bought and returned. There's a complicated ticketing system for entrance to keep the sale from turning into an extreme sport of its own, so get there before 9 a.m.
