PBSPS Presents: Danny got himself arrested and now we have no milk Deer Pile 9 p.m. Monday, June 23 $5 at the doorThis low-key Monday-night variety show hosted by veteran slam poet and poetry booster Ken Arkind goes beyond the literary by blending versifying with live music and comedy. Heading up the poetry end this month with a big voice and assured way with words is Suzi Q. Smith; she'll be joined by musician Sean Flikke and comic Jordan Doll. Poet and human memory bank Paulie Lipman will also be there with a round of trivia.

Award-winning author Lily King lifted the framework of her new novel Euphoria from the real-life experiences of ground-breaking anthropologist Margaret Mead to lift her own story about three 1930s-era anthropologists into the modern literary ether. Research and imagination go hand in hand in her study of a love triangle in faraway places.
Denver Mercury Cafe Slam Mercury Cafe 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29 $5 at the doorSlam night at the Merc pays homage to local poet Dominique Sample, who goes by the moniker of Bohemian Dreamer and came up through the Denver ranks as a Minor Disturbance youth poet (she went on to act as a coach for the group) and member of the 2013 Slam Nuba national slam team. Come early to warm up at the Jam Before the Slam; stay late for a blast of inspiration.
