Colorado filmmakers clean up at Chamonix Adventure Festival

A trio of filmmakers from Carbondale won three of the four festival awards at the Chamonix Adventure Festival over the weekend in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France: Tyler Stableford won the Jury Prize for Shattered, his portrait of alpinist Steve House (see it in full after the jump); Skip Armstrong and Forge Motion Pictures won Best Cinematography for Of Souls + Water: The Nomad, a portrait of kayaker Erik Boomer; and Pete McBride won Best Storytelling for Chasing Water, his documentary about the Colorado River which also won Best Short at the 2011 Banff Mountain Film Festival and won the Adventure Through Activism Award at the 2011 Adventure Film Festival last November.

Canon's Digital Learning Center released Stableford's film online in May; the film was shot entirely on a Canon EOS-1D X camera:

Armstrong's film, the first in his five-part Of Souls + Water series for Forge Motion Pictures and NRS Films (which will conclude in September with the release of The Elder) was released online in April:

McBride's film was released on DVD in 2011 as the companion film to his photography book, The Colorado River: Flowing Through Conflict. Here's a trailer:

A fourth film, Sébastien Montaz-Rosset's I Believe I Can Fly (Flight of the Frenchies), won the Chamonix Adventure Festival's Spirit of Chamonix Prize. A free segment of the film was made available online in 2011; the full film is available for download via www.SebMontaz.com:
