Here's the Denver Police Department tweet announcing what was happening....
BREAKING: DPD responds to shots fired at Civic Center Park. 2 suspects arrested a few blocks away. No one struck. No injuries.

UPDATE: shots were fired on Colfax between Lincoln & Broadway. 3 parties were taken into cust. Weapons recovered. Active Investigation cont.

What happened? According to a witness who spoke with 9News, a man was walking on one side of Colfax when he eyeballed another guy across the street. They pair apparently knew each other, and they don't seem to have been involved with a love affair -- because one of the men fired a couple shots in the direction of the second fella, who returned the favor times two, squeezing off an estimated four shots.
A couple of witnesses at the scene got video of the chaos immediately after the gunfire rang out. Here's a screen capture of people running....
...as well as images of the one man being taken into custody, after being apprehended on the 1500 block of Grant: The following images show another man in police care as well: Both the State Capitol and the Governor's Mansion were locked down for twenty minutes or so while all this was going on, after which things got back to semi-normal -- yet with the knowledge that time of day doesn't necessarily preclude the possibility that two morons will start shooting at each other without thought to the innocent bystanders nearby.Here's a 9News report with more of the video:
