Ryan Patrick Nichols, 26, has been accused of doing the latter, and the nastiness of the crime, which took place at around 2:50 a.m. yesterday at a King Soopers at 104th and Federal, likely led to its swift resolution. The Westminster Police Department sent out its initial release at 2:35 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Around five hours later, Nichols was arrested thanks to a tip from an anonymous source who may well have been just as disgusted by the attack as everyone else.

Suspect Captured-King Soopers StabbingOn August 10, 2009 at about 7:35 p.m., Officers of the Westminster Police Department arrested the man suspected of stabbing the 80 year old gentleman earlier in the day at King Soopers -- 104th Ave. and Federal Blvd.
The media and public were instrumental in his capture. An anonymous tip lead to the whereabouts of the suspect who was taken into custody in the 3000 block of W. 107th pl. in the Autumn Chase Townhome subdivision. He was arrested without incident.

He will be held at the Adams County Jail facing the following charges:

On August 10, 2009 at about 2:50 a.m., an 80 year old employee of King Soopers was stabbed outside his work. He was at the front doors of the King Soopers located at 103rd and Federal in Westminster.The suspect (listed below) was loitering in the parking lot prior to the assault. When the 80 year old victim walked by, the suspect stabbed him in the back. All indications are this is a completely random and unprovoked attack.
The suspect has a distinctive look and is described as a Hispanic male, late 20's, 6'2", 250 pounds, heavy build, with a beard. He has short hair and was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and white athletic shoes. He left the scene northbound on foot toward 104th Ave. He had previously been seen in the parking lot during the nighttime for two days prior to the assault.
The Westminster Police Department is seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect in this case. This is a senseless act of violence toward an 80 year old man.
