Coloradans such as Boulder's Ace Young have had a modicum of success on American Idol. And now, a contestant on Australian Idol, the down-under variation on the TV singing-contest phenomenon, has raised Denver's profile internationally, more or less. In this case, though, the Denver in question is Denver the Dinosaur, the central character in Denver, the Last Dinosaur, a late-'80s kiddie show too lame to have developed much of a cult following, at least in this country. The hopeless hopeful appeared in full Denver the Dino costume, eliciting a bizarre comment from judge Mark Holden: "You are definitely the gooniest goo-goo we've had in four years." (No need to watch your back, Simon Cowell.) But after a dopey performance of the cartoon's theme song, fellow panelist Kyle Sandilands got off a better line. "Let's push him over," he said.
