As the Journal reports here, the house was a cozy 8800 square feet -- a mere cubbyhole! -- when Pulitzer and Boberg acquired it in 2001. They've since added on a bowling alley, a shooting range, a lap pool, and a few other amenities, in a style the paper describes as "log-mountain-lodge-meets-Palm Beach."
Pulitzer rose to fame during her 1980s divorce from an heir to the Pulitzer fortune, a lurid celeb scandal that attracted media attention ranging from the tabloids to Hunter S. Thompson. She posed for Playboy to pay her legal bills and has since gone on to a successful career as an author of potboilers while burnishing her bad-girl image. She told the WSJ reporter that the massive expansion of their house was an effort to personalize her living space.
"Too many of the houses here are the same," she said. "You stumble home drunk and you don't know whose house you're in."
Boberg added that the couple had run out of projects to tackle and were eager to get started on a new home improvement challenge: "I believe the home you live in says more about you than anything."
