The Denver Daily News may be small in terms of circulation, but it's mighty feisty, as its February 27 front-page headline demonstrates. Pretty much every other news organization here and beyond state lines has lamented that the closure of the Rocky Mountain News will leave Denver with just one daily newspaper. In contrast, the DDN declares, "We're a 2-Daily Town" in its coverage of the Rocky's demise -- counting itself, of course. And the headline's second deck further accentuates the Daily's importance by giving the Denver Post second billing.

Delusions of grandeur? Maybe a little -- but in this case, it's a good thing. Now more than ever, Denver needs ambitious journalistic organizations. So kudos to the Daily News for standing up and insisting upon being counted.
