The tide seemed to be turning against Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler in his current pout-off with new coach Josh McDaniels over trade talks in which McDaniels considered swapping Cutler for former New England Patriots signal-caller Matt Cassel. Former Broncos color commentator (and current Denver Nuggets announcer) Scott Hastings called Cutler "a little bitch" on ESPN Radio, and plenty of people appeared ready to agree with him. But don't sleep on the growing anti-McDaniels constituency, whose new home base is KeepJayFireMcDaniels.com, a website dedicated to the sacking of McDaniels before he gets a chance to coach a single game.
The site was name-checked by sportswriter Jim Armstrong in yesterday's Denver Post along with a slightly less histrionic web address, SaveJayCutler.com, and it links to yet another McDaniels-bashing page -- an online petition to hand the new field general his head. Here's the petition's intro:
The reason for this petition is to get rid of the Denver Broncos new coach, Josh McDaniels. McDaniels was hired as the Broncos head coach, following the firing of Mike Shanahan. While Josh McDaniels was a very good offensive coach in New England, he has stated that he would have like to have traded 2008 Pro-Bowl selection Jay Cutler for Matt Casell [sic], who had not started a single game for any NFL team since coming out of college. Jay Cutler was very displeased at the fact that "He was completely happy playing for McDaniels and being in Denver." A source close to the league has said that "Their relationship is beyond repair." As many NFL fans know, the Bill Belichick coaching tree has not been what many people have expected it to be, with most teams who HAVE had coaches under him finishing under .500. While I am a die hard Denver Broncos fan, I do believe that this is not a good move for the organization. Mike Shanahan was the best coach to have ever been in Denver. Fine [Freudian sic] a way to bring him back, or get someone else... such as maybe John Gruden, or maybe even Mike Holmgren. Thank you for your time reading this, and please, sign the petition! Thanks to all

Also targeted by KeepJayFireMcDaniels.com is Gene Wojciechowski, an ESPN reporter who wrote this in his own take on the Cutler-McDaniels spat:
Will someone please give Jay Cutler his pacifier, hand him his favorite blankie and put him back in his crib for his afternoon nap? Because if he cries anymore about a trade that didn't happen, we'll have to check his Pampers.
"LET HIM HAVE IT," the KeepJayFireMcDaniels.com crew advises in regard to Wojciechowski -- and plenty of people have heard these marching orders. Thus far, more than 12,000 visitors have stopped by the site. So keep those lips zipped as long as you want, Jay-baby, and ignore the jibes about your little bitchery. 'Cause lotsa fans have your back.
