This trio of concurrent, pop-inspired solo shows takes on the beautiful and the absurd -- with a streak of humor that runs through all the work presented. This particular installment is a field day for fans of pop surrealist Christian Rex van Minnen, whose bizarre comic-grotesque mashups of northern Renaissance style are in high demand.

RedLine Gallery Opening reception: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 16

RedLine is paying tribute to its current crop of resident artists, who are the heartbeat of the whole operation. Two shows, one a formal group exhibition and the other an interactive multimedia collaboration by Justin Beard, Katie Caron and Bryan Leister, will give viewers a peek at what's happening on the front lines of the local art world.

Culture Catalyst: Celebrating 20 Years of Art at Denver International Airport McNichols Building January 16 through March 8 Opening reception: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 16

There's more to Denver International Airport's public art collection than the iconic Blucifer -- official name "Mustang," that rearing, red-eyed demon of the prairie that we all seem to love to hate. Culture Catalyst examines the history of DIA's morphing public artworks with a look back at some of the airport's original commissions, a video display of art planned for the new Hotel and Transit Center, and six new temporary commissions from Darrell Anderson, David Fodel, Hollis + Lana, Joel Swanson and Chinn Wang. Mai Wyn Fine Art starts off the year with a peek at what's to come at the gallery in 2015, which a display of work by eight artists, including Mai Wyn Schantz herself. Among shows coming up this year at Mai Wyn: solos by Gregory Euclide, Sharon Bond Brown, Bryan Andrews and others.
